All that glitters

As the faint glow of Britain’s last-minute heatwave fades away, it seems a bit premature to be talking about pieces for next spring. Days are getting shorter, models have only just stepped off Parisian runways and frankly most of us are ready to spend the next few months swaddled in faux fur, but if you want to get a head start on the new season’s trends, it’s time to invest in gold.

Before you start drastically budgeting, you’ll be glad to hear that this is one style statement that needn’t be taken literally. From subtly shimmering nudes to rich rose tones, shades of gold will be key when it comes to dealing with the difficult seasonal transitions ahead. The latest collections by Alexander McQueen, Topshop Unique and Balmain all featured metallic flashes, and winter’s Navajo outfits or lady of the manor luxury are perfectly offset with a refined gilt edge.

Add flecks of embellishment to mustards, burnt oranges and jewel tones, or inject glamour amongst racing greens, reds and burgundy with bolder blocks of tailoring and accessories. When shedding layers next March, pair with Chanel and Christopher Kane’s pearlescent whites or shots of aqua and you’ll be 24 carat chic.
